Heart Healthy Points Program
What is Surdyk’s Heart Healthy Program?
We get that question a lot, so we decided to create this informational piece.
First and foremost:
Our Heart Healthy Program benefits the American Heart Association. And this is how it works: When you accumulate $250.00 worth of wine purchases, Surdyk’s will send you a coupon for $10.00 to use during the month following your $250.00 total. Example: You accumulated $250.00 worth of wine purchases by December, we’ll send you a $10.00 coupon to use in January. (Totals may accumulate over any period of time.)
What if I purchase more than $250.00 in wine?
You’ll earn more coupons. (One for every $250.00.) So when you make $500.00 in purchases, we’ll send you a coupon the following two consecutive months. Example: If you reach a $500.00 total by December, we’ll send you one $10.00 coupon to use in January and one to use in February. (And the math keeps working like that: $750.00, three coupons, $1,000.00, four coupons, and so on. One wedding or big office bash later, you’re earning lots of coupons.) *
How will Surdyk’s know how much wine I purchase?
We assign you your very own Heart Healthy Program number. Every time you make a purchase at Surdyk’s present your Heart Healthy card or give us your last name, and we’ll add the amount to your total.
Anything else?
Yep. THE BIG PAYOFF!!! Every wine and spirit purchase you make using your Heart Healthy Program number contributes to Surdyk’s year end donation to help fight heart disease, at no cost to you!
*Coupons good only during the month they are distributed. Surdyk’s will not accept expired coupons.
Why is your program “heart healthy”?
It all started back in the ‘90’s. The “French Paradox” introduced by a 1991 Episode of 60 Minutes revealed red wine to be the common denominator among Mediterranean countries and heart health. Since then a variety of studies have touted the health benefits of red wine. Such as…
"Compounds in red wine have been shown to reduce the artery-clogging propensities of LDL, the "bad" form of cholesterol, as well as inhibit the formation of blood clots. " - Web MD
"Red wine may prevent additional heart attacks if you have already suffered from one. " Healthcastle.com
"The study known as the Copenhagen City Heart Study, found that those who drank red wine had about half the risk of dying of heart disease as those who didn't." - Mayo Clinic
"Researchers at the Harvard Medical School and the National Institute on Aging report that a natural substance found in red wine known as resveratrol can significantly extend the life of mice." - Atkins.com
"Experts at five universities found that people who drank more than two glasses of red wine a day had 44% fewer colds than teetotalers. " BBC News
NOTE: If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. This means an average of one to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women. Drinking more alcohol increases such dangers as alcoholism, high blood pressure, obesity, stroke, breast cancer, suicide and accidents. Given these and other risks, the American Heart Association cautions people NOT to start drinking if they do not already drink alcohol. Consult your doctor on the benefits and risks of consuming alcohol in moderation.
